Hieromartyr Theodore, Bishop of Cyrene in Libya, is commemorated on July 4th for his unwavering fidelity to Jesus Christ during the persecution of Emperor Diocletian. A gifted calligrapher who devoted his talents to copying sacred books for the Church, St. Theodore refused to surrender the Holy Scriptures or deny Christ when brought before the governor. Despite brutal torture, the cutting out of his tongue, and imprisonment, the holy bishop remained steadfast in the true Faith. Alongside him, the holy women Cyrilla, Lucia, and Aoa courageously confessed Christ and received the crown of martyrdom with many newly baptized Christians.
