100 Schools, 600 Converts: The Chesterton Effect | Dr. Dale Ahlquist

In this episode, Dale Ahlquist, president of the Society of Gilbert Keith Chesterton, speaks about the writer who has been quietly making converts for a hundred years and the lay apostolate built to introduce him to a new generation. Discover how a handful of aging Chestertonians meeting once a year in Wisconsin grew into a worldwide society, how two fathers searching for a decent high school launched a classical Catholic school network now spanning dozens of states and several continents, and why the Society finally retired the word "distributism" in favor of a term everyone understands immediately: localism. Dale shares his own journey into the Church through Chesterton's pen, Chesterton's three stages of conversion, why joy is the most disarming argument a Catholic can make, and the ongoing effort to see Chesterton raised to the altars. About the Speaker: Dale Ahlquist is president of the Society of Gilbert Keith Chesterton, creator and host of the EWTN series "G.K. Chesterton: The Apostle of Common Sense," and publisher of Gilbert magazine. He is the author of numerous books on Chesterton, most recently I Also Had My Hour: An Alternative Autobiography of G.K. Chesterton (Ignatius Press), and the editor of many volumes of Chesterton's own writing. In 2008 he co-founded the first Chesterton Academy in Hopkins, Minnesota, and went on to found the Chesterton Schools Network, which now includes schools across the United States and in nine other countries. Biographer Joseph Pearce has called him probably the greatest living authority on the life and work of G.K. Chesterton. Dale and his wife Laura live in Minnesota.
